SEVENTH GRADE GALLERY
The seventh grade art classes were inspired by work by artist Shinique Smith and Michael Owen's Baltimore Love Project. They learned how to draw American Sign Language hand gestures to translate a 3-5 letter word, then used different sized paint brushes to apply a background. Students worked in small groups to construct short poems in response the Shinique Smith's work, then designed their own patterns. Finally, students added textiles to the center of the piece and wrote their own interpretive poem based on their own work.
